Dr. Phillips is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS). He has been in the top 1% of cross-field (nutrition and physiology) highly-cited scholars globally for six straight years 2018-2023.
CSEP Webinar: Being Strong to Live Long(er): What’s the Key Formula?
The ’other’ part of our 24h movement guidelines espouses the virtues of being strong. We are told to engage in strengthening activities twice weekly, and yet the number of people who engage in this portion of the guidelines is shockingly low. Is this a problem? New evidence sheds light on the fact that strengthening activities, including resistance training, share much more in common with aerobic activities in terms of health risk reduction than previously thought. In this webinar, the aim is to provide an up-to-date review of the health-promoting effects of resistance training and why it just might be as, or more, important as aerobic exercise for promoting health, especially as we age.

CSEP Webinar: The Science of Sleeping Soundly
Practice sleeping better to craft health and high performance.
Dr. Greg Wells presents a clear path towards exponential health and performance in this keynote based on his international best-selling book, The Ripple Effect. Discover how sleeping soundly more consistently can have an exponential impact on your overall health and performance.
Sleep serves as a cornerstone for brain health, and healing, repairing, and regenerative functions kick into high gear during our resting hours. Quality sleep can improve cognition, learning creativity and innovation making sleep a core practice for all who want to improve wellbeing and sustainable performance.
Drawing from his extensive background as a scientist and physiologist, Dr. Wells will guide you through the science of exponential sleep as it relates to health and performance, offering actionable insights and tactics you can use to optimize your wellbeing.
Dr. Wells will present the 7 keys to sleeping soundly, which are practices that can be installed in everyone’s daily routines and rituals to elevate the ability to rest and recharge via consistently sound sleep.
Audiences will learn:

Bridging exercise science and rehabilitation science for stroke recovery
Dr. Ada Tang (she/her) is a physical therapist, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean (Rehabilitation Science) at McMaster University.
CSEP Webinar - September, 2024
Speaker bio
Dr. Ada Tang (she/her) is a physical therapist, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean (Rehabilitation Science) at McMaster University. Dr. Tang has extensive clinical experience in neurological rehabilitation, which she carries into her research program with the MacStroke Canada research team where they focus on the role of exercise and physical activity on cardiovascular health, fitness, function and recovery after stroke. Dr. Tang and her team incorporates important considerations of sex, gender, and other variables related to recovery after stroke, always with a focus on equity, diversity and inclusion, along with environmental sustainability. Dr Tang received a YWCA Woman of Distinction for her work in stroke rehabilitation and recovery that has been recognized nationally and internationally. She previously held Clinician-Scientist awards with the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation, and is an associate editor with Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair.
CSEP Webinar: Bridging exercise science and rehabilitation science for stroke recovery
Limited mobility after stroke can contribute to physical inactivity and sedentary behaviours, which can compromise recovery and contribute to higher risk for developing cardiovascular disease. Exercise and physical activity can help improve many cardiovascular risk factors and may be an effective strategy for primary and secondary prevention. This webinar will explore new research in stroke and exercise that bridges exercise science and rehabilitation science to advance stroke recovery. We will discuss clinical considerations for prescription, effects of training intensity to optimize outcomes, approaches to promote physical activity, and knowledge translation to promote best practices in care after stroke.
CSEP Webinar – October 30, 2024 | 7:00 – 8:00 PM EDT
Overcoming strength training barriers in middle-aged and older adults
Ashley Gluchowski is a clinical exercise physiologist and certified special population specialist.
CSEP Webinar - October, 2024
Short Bio
Ashley is a clinical exercise physiologist and certified special population specialist. Although her background is in medical science and clinical trials in cardiovascular surgery, her PhD focused on eccentric resistance training in resistance-trained older adults. Her first post-doc position looked at the awareness, knowledge, and implementation of the strength component of the UK’s Chief Medical Officers’ physical activity guidelines in practice. Ashley’s current research fellowship takes a co-design approach to strength training messaging as she attempts to overcome barriers, raise awareness, improve knowledge, and increase participation in strength training in the general population.
CSEP Webinar: Overcoming strength training barriers in middle-aged and older adults
This session will bridge the research to practice gap by using the latest research findings as well as the collective experience of the room in order to help middle-aged and older adults overcome their barriers to strength training participation.
- Learn what the latest research suggests about overcoming barriers to strength training in the general population
- Learn from your peers about what works and what doesn’t when trying to encourage strength training uptake and adherence in your middle aged and older clients.
