CSEP Graduate Student Award - Oral Presentation Terms of Reference
CSEP seeks to recognize outstanding research conducted by its graduate student members. Each year, the society presents a Graduate Student Oral Presentation Award Competition in conjunction with the Annual Scientific Meeting. Up to four finalists are invited to present their research at the Graduate Student Oral Presentation Session, scheduled for the first evening of the Annual Scientific Meeting. To be eligible, a candidate must have been registered as a full-time graduate student at a Canadian institution for at least one semester during the 12-month period prior to the Annual Scientific Meeting. The work must have been performed at the students home institution or at a foreign institution as part of a duly recognized collaboration with the home institution. The student must be a member of CSEP at the time of application and be first author on an abstract submitted for presentation at the subsequent Annual Scientific Meeting. There is no age limit.
An application consists of the following:
- A standard abstract formatted in accordance with the Annual Scientific Meeting submission guidelines.
- A two-page (~600 word) outline by the student that describes their project in more detail. The outline should explain the rationale for the work, purpose and/or hypothesis, research design, results, discussion that highlights the significance of the work and key references. Up to two figures may be included within the two-page limit.
- A one-page (~300 word) letter from the students supervisor that explains the role and contribution(s) of the applicant to the research project.
A selection committee will review all applications received prior to the submission deadline, which is usually the same date as the Annual Scientific Meeting abstract submission deadline. The selection committee will consist of the Vice Chair Research (or their designate in case of conflict), who will act as selection committee Chair, Director Academic, (or their designate in case of conflict) Director Student (or their designate in case of conflict), and one other CSEP Member. The committee will select up to four finalists, who will be informed at least one month prior to the Annual Scientific Meeting. Finalists will be invited to deliver a 15-minute oral presentation.
The winner will receive $500.00 and the other finalists $250.00 each to assist with travel expenses associated with the Annual Scientific Meeting.
