The purpose of this recognition is to acknowledge the research and other significant contributions of Gord Sleivert to the area of Applied Sport Research and/or Sport Nutrition. The recipient will present a 45-minute lecture on a topic of their choice and area of applied sport and/or sport nutrition research during the Health and Fitness programming at the CSEP Annual Scientific Meeting.

  • The eligible recipient is a noted investigator in the area of applied sport and/or sport nutrition research.
  • Has an exemplary publication record. 
  • Has not received this award within the past five years.
  • The eligible recipient must be a member of CSEP in good standing at the time of application submission.
  • The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) will select a list of eligible nominees.
  • The Board of Directors will review the nomination and select the recipient. 
  • The Local Organizing Committee will notify the award recipient.

Gord Sleivert was a giant and force of nature in applied sport science in Canada. After his PhD at U Victoria and a stint in New Zealand, Gord returned to Canada, first as a faculty member at U New Brunswick and then as the lead for sport science and performance at Canadian Sport Institute – Pacific back in Victoria in 2004 until his unfortunate passing in 2012. Gord was a driving force behind the development of sport science in Canada, and much of the stellar work being done now, along with the breadth and depth of people in the field, was due to Gord’s work and inspiration. Talk to endurance athletes from that era and they all have stories of sweating buckets doing heat acclimation in a RV that Gord adapted into a mobile heat chamber. We at CSEP are very proud to honour Gord’s legacy through the Gord Sleivert lecture, highlighting topics in applied sport science.

  • The recipient will also be reimbursed up to $1,500 CAD) for travel expenses to the CSEP Annual Scientific Meeting.
