Aligned with the ideology and importance of recognizing the value of regular physical activity for all aspects of health, the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) is pleased to support and encourage Canadians to participate in RED January (Rise Every Day, redjanuary.ca) as an avenue towards achieving the 24-Hour Movement Guidelines.
“As a national leader in championing exercise, CSEP is proud to support the RED January initiative to promote physical activity and connectivity with each of our communities to improve our mental and physical well-being. Through this program, Canadians will increasingly move towards meeting the 24-Hour Movement Guidelines while supporting one another,” says Zach Weston, CSEP CEO.
RED fosters a sense of community by igniting the joy of being active together in households, neighbourhoods, classrooms, teams, and workplaces. Their mission is to spark a passion for daily physical activity among Canadians, empowering them to enhance their physical, mental and social well-being through January and beyond.

Following 10+ years in the United Kingdom, RED data* has revealed that:
- 50% of participants report less stress and reduced signs of depressive symptoms.
- 32% of participants moved from being inactive to fairly active.
- 74% of participants reported being more active than usual in January.

RED January is about building an active community supporting RED’s official Canadian charity partner, GenWell. GenWell is Canada’s Human Connection movement dedicated to fostering human connections within the wider realm of social health, recognizing its vital importance to Canadians’ mental and physical well-being and the society in which we live.
