December 7, 2022 (Vancouver, BC)

The Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) and Own the Podium (OTP), on behalf of Sport Scientist Canada, have established a partnership to ensure all athletes trained through the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network (COPSIN) have access to skilled and qualified practitioners that are certified as a CSEP Clinical Exercise Physiologist® and have completed the CSEP High Performance Specialization™.

Recognizing the need for elite performance training, this new model of required credentialling will ensure all of Canada’s Olympic, Paralympic and Next Generation athletes in Canada have access to the highest trained practitioners.

These athletes will receive the best training, testing, monitoring, and periodized schedules to improve their ability to optimize their performance on the world stage. The challenges of training for competition and qualifying events, and optimizing seasonal and quadrennial performance peaking requires specific expertise to achieve desired results while decreasing the risk for injury. This model will support Canada’s athletes with the expertise they require.

CSEP, OTP and Sport Scientist Canada will work with existing COPSIN sport physiologists to ensure they are able to complete the required training to obtain the Clinical Exercise Physiologist® certification and the High Performance Specialization™, while establishing a clear pathway for future practitioners who have a desire to work in this sector and in support of creating more podium performances by Canadians on the world stage.
