PhD or MSc Positions at the University of Toronto, Canada

Fully funded PhD or MSc positions are available for September 2022 in the lab of Dr. Amy Kirkham in the Graduate Department of Kinesiology at the University of Toronto (Toronto, Canada). Both domestic and international students will be considered.

The University of Toronto is consistently ranked among the world’s best research universities and is located in Canada’s most vibrant and culturally diverse city. The location, size and diversity provide unique opportunities for collaboration and innovation. More information about the graduate program can be found here: https://kpe.utoronto.ca/academics-research/graduate-studies.

The Kirkham lab is located in the Goldring Centre for High Performance. This award-winning building was completed in 2014 and houses cutting-edge and newly renovated research labs, including several resting and exercise metabolism suites, ultrasound suite, image analysis suite, metabolic kitchen, tissue collection and storage suite, and a molecular biology suite.

Potential projects will involve cancer or cardiac populations (especially cardio-oncology) with a primary focus on women’s health. Lines of research involve characterization of cardiometabolic pathophysiology (heart, vascular, skeletal muscle, ectopic adipose tissue, glucose control) in these populations and intervention work in the areas of cardiac rehabilitation, acute or chronic exercise, or novel nutrition strategies (caloric restriction, intermittent fasting, ketogenic diet, etc.). Imaging, especially magnetic resonance and ultrasound are central tools, in addition to blood analysis, biosensors (continuous glucose monitors, physical activity and sleep trackers), cardiopulmonary exercise testing and clinical outcomes. There is also potential for in-department collaboration in applied muscle physiology and metabolism work in these populations.

Prospective students can express their interest via the following intake form and mention the CSEP ad as the referring source:
