Following the release of the recently expanded scope of practice for all CSEP Certified Personal Trainers®, CSEP is working to further expand the opportunities for members with the development of Specializations. A CSEP Performance Specialization covering assessments and training for performance and occupational clients is currently under development and slated for release in late 2019.

“We are excited to be working on a variety of new, in-depth specializations as part of our commitment to ensuring the CSEP Professional Standards Program® continues to evolve to reflect the latest research, industry trends and needs of members,” says Dr. Jennifer Copeland, CSEP-CEP, Chair of the CSEP Professional Standards Program®.

Offered as an add-on to existing CSEP certifications, Specializations will provide members with the necessary in-depth knowledge to work with unique populations and an opportunity to expand their work.

“CSEP has assembled a comprehensive group of experts to oversee the development of this performance specialization; we have professionals from the fields of high performance, military and police services” say Gerren McDonald, CSEP-CEP, Chair of the Review Committee. “This knowledgeable group of CSEP members is developing one of the most advanced specializations available for exercise professionals working with athletes, military members and performance occupations.”

CSEP Certified Personal Trainers® (CSEP-CPT) and CSEP Certified Exercise Physiologists® (CSEP-CEP) are highly qualified exercise professionals who provide clients with individualized exercise programming that supports lasting lifestyle changes. CSEP certified members have a post-secondary education in exercise science, meet a standard of knowledge, and use assessments that are validated in research to ensure clients get the best care.

Additional specializations will be announced through this and the following member year.
